Grandparents Day 2014

Today at our school we celebrated Grandparents Day.  We loved showing our grandparents our classroom and some of our artwork. Then we all went to the hall for a special liturgy.

Alyssa's mum & dad also visited our classroom.

We made special cards for our grandparents who couldn't visit us today.

We love our granddads and grandmas and thank them for being so kind to us!!

Our favourites were Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the Twits, The Enormous Crocodile and James and the Giant Peach.

2J Veggie Garden

Last term our class started a new veggie garden.  We planted lots of different vegetables including tomatoes, peas, beetroot, capsicum and chillies.

First of all we had to weed the garden and then Mr Bond added some good soil, so it was ready for our seedlings.

Then we planted!

                           and watered!

We also planted basil and marigolds to keep the bad bugs away. This is called companion planting.

Stradbroke Island Excursion

Last Thursday the Year 2 classes travelled to Stradbroke Island on the Flyer. When we got there, we all worked together as anthropologists to help Katrina and Georgina to solve puzzle clues about the island.

Matt showed us Aboriginal artefacts used by the Quandamooka people.

We all had a turn at throwing a boomerang.

Walking to a shell midden at Polka Point.

We had solved another piece of the puzzle!
Katrina lifted the grass to show us a midden that was very very old.
Did you know that a midden is an archaeological term for a rubbish heap? A midden can contain shells, animal bones and other broken remains from 1000's of years ago.

Katrina took our large group photo before we got on the boat to go back to school. We loved our day exploring Straddie. We learnt so much!!!!

Did you know that Minjerribah is the Aboriginal name for North Stradbroke Island?

A Special Visitor.

This week the year 2's had a visit from an anthropologist. Her name was Katrina. She gave us puzzle pieces to solve. We took an anthropologist's pledge, where we promised to solve puzzles of people, past and present, to always do our best and to make meaning of history. Katrina is coming with us on our excursion next Thursday to Stradbroke Island. She is going to help us solve some more puzzles. We can't wait! Have you been to Straddie? What do you think we will see on our excursion?

                                                          This is Riley's pledge!
