Grandparents' Day

Today we celebrated Grandparents' Day at our school. First of all our grandparents visited our classroom. We showed them our technology museum; they remembered a lot of the items from when they were little. After that we interviewed them and asked them about life when they were at school. We learnt a lot from them. Finally we went to the hall for a liturgy. Some of our grandparents were unable to attend but we said a prayer for them as well.
Our teacher took some photos of us with our grandmothers and grandfathers.

The Way We Were

This term our history unit is about how technology has changed over time. We are creating a technology museum in our classroom.  We love looking at all the old items from the past that are in our museum. We have old cameras, a very old telephone and an old iron which is extremely heavy and lots of other items from the past We are discussing the impact of technology on our lives today.

Hullabazoo!

Yesterday we had a visit from an author, Lisa Hollier and illustrator, Tracey Roper.  Their book is called Hullabazoo! It is the story of a young boy, Lachlan, who goes on a trip to the zoo with his dad. Things start to turn a little crazy when Lachlan drops his hat into the water.

The illustrations are amazing with lots of detail and colour. Tracey told us that they took hundreds of photos at zoos and of their family. Then she put them on the computer like a collage. When she was happy with the final picture she painted it. She is a fantastic artist.

We also had a sneak peak at the 2nd book they are working on.  It is about a dragon under the bed. We can't wait until it is published and we can read it and look at the finished illustrations.

Maths in 2J

This week we modelled and used strategies for division including sharing and arrays.
We shared a collection of objects into equal groups and then into equal rows as an array.
Have a look at some of our pictures where we demonstrated our understanding of division.
Our teacher was very proud of our work this week.

Book Week

This week at SJV we celebrated Book Week. The theme was Reading Across The Universe. We had fun decorating our classroom door with pictures of all our favourite books.

On Wednesday we dressed up as our favourite book characters. Everyone was very creative and we loved showing our costumes on the book parade.

Exploring Moreton Bay

Last Thursday Year 2's explored the mud flats in Moreton Bay. Mr MacPherson, a science teacher helped us to find crabs, sea snails, shells, oysters, worms and a clicking prawn. We also found lots of mangrove seeds. We learnt a lot about Moreton Bay. It is an extraordinary marine park! What do you know about Moreton Bay?
